Transfer of User Data to the New Manga Planet, & Requirement to Sign Pledge Against Piracy

The Future: Manga Planet and futekiya’s Plans for the First Half of 2023

Since the announcement on February 26 (Sunday), we have received many comments, opinions, and questions through Twitter and other channels.

However, there were some things that we did not immediately explain in detail so as not to overload everyone with information. We have been gradually providing more detailed information about our changes.

Now, we would like to explain how user data will be transferred to the new Manga Planet, as well as introduce our requirement for all users to sign our Pledge Against Piracy.

If your questions are still unanswered after this update, or if you have anything you would like to share with the Manga Planet team, we would appreciate it if you would tweet us again with the hashtag #MangaPlanetTheFuture .

Favorites and History

Users’ Favorites and History as recorded in the current Manga Planet and/or futekiya Library will be combined and transferred to the new Manga Planet.

There’s no need to do anything to transfer your data to the new Manga Planet.

Subscription Plans

Subscription plans will be transferred to the new Manga Planet as described below.

Rules for Transferring Subscription to the New Manga Planet

Continuous Contract Period and Total Contract Period

These statistics are applicable to subscribed users, and can be found in the user dashboard. Continuous Contract Period refers to how long you’ve been currently subscribed, while Total Contract Period is the total of your entire subscription history, including canceled subscriptions.

This data will be transferred to the new Manga Planet as well. For subscribers to both Manga Planet and futekiya Library, we will calculate the total of your Contract Periods and reflect it on the new Manga Planet accordingly.

Gift Codes

Gift codes purchased from the current Manga Planet Library and futekiya Library will be usable on the new Manga Planet.

* Gift codes for the futekiya Library can also be used for the new Manga Planet.

Points

So long as they are still valid, points distributed before the merge will be usable after the merge.

Pledge Against Piracy

Since March 25, 2022, we have required new users to accept the Pledge Against Piracy. Previously, for those who registered before March 25, 2022, there was a link to the Pledge Against Piracy page on the Dashboard, but acceptance was optional.

However, after the service merger, all users will be required to accept the Pledge Against Piracy before performing the following actions:

  • Subscribing to a plan
  • Purchasing gift code(s)
  • Purchasing Points
  • Purchasing chapter(s)
  • Renting chapter(s)
  • Purchasing volume(s)
  • Renting volume(s)

We apologize to the users of Manga Planet for this additional step, but we believe that the control and elimination of illegal distribution will help manga culture flourish.

Our hope is that if more publishers and manga artists see that our distribution models are helping to combat piracy, we will be able to legally distribute more titles. This, in turn, may help reduce the cost of access to manga for international manga fans, thus helping them encounter a wider variety of new and interesting titles.

We hope for your understanding of Manga Planet’s stance and your cooperation in taking the Pledge.

Final Notes

Although we try to read through all replies and reactions, we might miss those without the hashtag #MangaPlanetTheFuture , so we’d appreciate it if you could add the hashtag.

Please note that some people send us questions after reading only the official tweets, and a certain number of people may ask questions about things that have already been explained in the original announcement video. We might also take some time to reply, so we ask for your patience and understanding.

For those who missed our very first announcement, we hope you will take the time to watch the video:

In addition, we would appreciate it if you would also check the additional explanations below.
