Juujin Omegaverse: The Best of Both Worlds?
If you are a BL fan, more than likely you have heard of omegaverse, an alternative universe taking the Boys Love genre by storm in Japan. While normally omegaverse and kemono don’t overlap, Hana Hasumi’s Pendulum and Remnant Juujin Omegaverse (also known as Kemonhito Omegaverse among English fans) series envisions a world where beastmen and humans coexist and live in a system of secondary genders. The Juujin Omegaverse series, comprising of the Pendulum and Remnant arcs, currently has over 350,000 copies sold and has a large fan following.
To celebrate the release of Remnant: Juujin Omegaverse Volume 1’s drama CD and second volume, the Kinokuniya Shinjuku Main Store held the Remnant and Pendulum Fair from April 21 to May 20, 2018. At the fair, fans have a chance to buy limited edition bromides along with the manga and drama CDs! Hana Hasumi also visited Kinokuniya held a signing for her dazzling manga.
Thanks to our friends at Kinokuniya, we had the chance to take photos for all our fans!
What is Pendulum: Juujin Omegaverse and Remnant: Juujin Omegaverse?
In the Juujin Omegaverse (aka Kemonohito Omegaverse) series, beastmen can only be born from an omega human. However, society treats omega as merely a tool for reproduction, and many human omegas struggle to find a good life.
Kai is one such omega in Pendulum. Abandoned by his parents at a young age, Kai finds refuge with Ruard Siegfried, head of the most influential beastman clan in the country. At first, Kai enjoys his life with Ruard and spends his days reading and studying. However, over time he develops feelings for Ruard and discovers a secret in the Siegfried family that might ruin his dreams of sharing his life with Ruard.
Daato from Remnant is also an omega struggling to find happiness. Living in an orphanage with his sister, Daato works to earn enough money so he and his sister can stay with each other. Within the orphanage, Daato believes omega who reach their heat are married and sent away. But, he suddenly discovers that the orphanage is actually selling omegas after their first heat. Shocked by the truth, Daato finds himself in a race against time to leave the orphanage before either he or his sister go into heat. When his sister suddenly goes into heat, Daato encounters Juda, a beastman that shares a deep connection with him, even though neither of them knows this yet.
