Manga Events August 2020: Manga Planet Listing

It’s officially summer in Japan! Here are some of the manga-related events and exhibitions taking place this August 2020, but make sure you practice social distancing and abide by the preventive measures taken by the organizers when joining these events!


Shaman King 20th Anniversary Exhibition: Aug 8-23 in Aomori

To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Shaman King, an original artwork exhibition will be held in Aomori.

Last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
*Closes at 14:00 on the last day.
*Business hours may change depending on the situation
*Tickets with designated entry date will be sold
*Admission is not on a turnover basis
*Event may be suddenly cancelled due to the spread of the new coronavirus. Operation status information will be posted on the official Twitter and the event website.

D.Gray-man Original Artwork Exhibition -The World of Katsura Hoshino-: Aug8-19 in Tokyo

An original artwork exhibition of Katsura Hoshino-sensei’s masterpiece D.Gray-man will be held. The exhibition will depict the story of dynamic spirit and challenges with original drawings and other materials. Original goods will also be sold at the venue.

*Until 7 PM on August 16 (Sun) due to inventory
*On the last day of the exhibition, August 19 (Wed), the venue will close at 6 PM.

*Please refrain from coming to the event if you have a fever or are not feeling well.

Comic Cune 5th Anniversary Fair: Aug 8 onwards

The Comic Cune 5th Anniversary Fair will also be held in Animate stores nationwide. During the fair, you will receive one clear bookmark (9 types) for every purchase. The design of the bookmark cannot be chosen since it’s based on the purchased product.

Comic Cune 5th Anniversary Fair in Animate Shibuya: Aug 8-Sept 13 in Shibuya

To celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Comic Cune, a fair will be held in Animate Shibuya. During the fair, 5th Anniversary products will be on sale. There will also be a lottery in which you can participate by exchanging fair point receipts (1P) from purchasing the target products. The prize is a signed mini shikishi.

Hakusensha Fair 2020: Aug 20-Sept 17

Animate will be holding the Hakusensha Fair 2020. During the fair, for every product under the fair purchased, 1 fair point will be given.
For magazines and paradise books, 2 points will be given for each copy.
You can receive a 16-page booklet (2 types Girl’s Side, Men’s Side) in exchange for your collected fair points (3 fair points needed).

Dengeki Bunko Super Appreciation Fair 2020 on animate: Aug 7-Sept 30

“Dengeki Bunko Super Appreciation Fair 2020” will be held in bookstores across Japan. Animate will also be participating in the fair. Along with the nationwide fair specials, Animate will also prepare limited benefits. During the fair period, an illustration card (13 types) will be given with every purchase of eligible products.

Hoozuki no Reitetsu Original Artwork Exhibition: Aug 12-24 in Tokyo

A large-scale exhibition will be held to commemorate the completion of the Hoozuki no Reitetsu series. Raw manuscripts will be on display. In addition, a new book is planned to be release.

Manga “Moshimo Tokyo” Exhibition: Summer 2020 in Tokyo

The “Moshimo Tokyo” exhibition, where 20 different manga artists will create manga based on the theme of “What if Tokyo”, is scheduled for Summer 2020 in Tokyo.

Hisashi Sekiya and the Era of Sports Manga Overtime ~ Another Shonen Manga History ~: July 18-Sept 13 in Kyushu

The exhibition will look back on the work of Hisashi Sekiya (1928-2000), a shonen manga artist from Kitakyushu who was active in the golden age of monthly shonen manga.
250 artworks were selected to show the charm of Hisashi Sekiya who started working for a newspaper company after the war and continued drawing until his later years.

Moyoko Anno Original Picture Exhibition ANNORMAL: July 1-Sept 22 in Tokyo

“Moyoko Anno Exhibition ANNORMAL” will be held at Setagaya Literary Museum. Over 500 drawings by Moyoko Anno will be featured. Moyoko Anno is known for titles such as Hataraki Man, Sakuran, Happy Mania, and Sugar Sugar Rune.

Ishinomori Manga Museum 77th Special Exhibition: “The Land of Manga Ishinomaki “Hajime no Ippo Art Exhibition~Tamashii no Bout~: June 1-Aug 30

To commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Hajime no Ippo‘s serialization, an original exhibition will be held in Ishinomaki. Raw manuscripts and colored drawings will be on display.
Original goods and prints produced for the event will also be sold at the venue.

Doraemon 50th Anniversary “Doraemon by Grade Exhibition: We Who Grew Up Together with Nobita”: July 21-Feb 28 in

For the 50th anniversary of “Doraemon”, a new original exhibition will be held at Fujiko F. Fujio Furusato Gallery. In the exhibition, you can enjoy original drawings of the six “Doraemon” works that were released in the same month of the same year.
