Thanks to our friends at Shosen Books and Shinshokan, Manga Planet had the opportunity to visit the Kase-san and… Series Museum. We even have a special message from Takashima-sensei!
What is the Kase-san and… Series?
In Kase-san and…, a yuri manga series written and illustrated by Hiromi Takashima, Yui Yamada is a shy high schooler who has a sincere appreciation for flowers and enjoys gardening. Although they are in different classes, Yui becomes friends with Tomoka Kase, the star athlete of their school’s track team, when they realize they are watering the same morning glories. The love between Yui and Tomoko grows over time as they spend more time together, and they eventually begin dating.
Yuri manga anthology Hirari first published Kase-san and… as a one-shot in 2010, and it began serialization in 2011. When Hirari stopped publication, the series moved to Shinshokan’s web magazine FLASH Wings in 2014. In 2017, Shinshokan’s shōjo manga magazine Wings started serializing Yamada to Kase-san.
Animation Studio ZEXCS produced a five-minute animated video of the manga titled Your Light ~Kase-san and Morning Glories~ released on Pony Canyon’s official YouTube channel in May 2017. Takuya Sato directed the animated short, and Kyuta Sakai was in charge of character design and key animation. The video features “Kimi no Egao by Hanako Oku.” A new original video animation (OVA) titled Kasa-san and Morning Glories, produced by ZEXCS and directed by Satō with Sakai in charge of character design will have a theatrical release starting on June 9, 2018 in Japan. Ayane Sakura will play Tomoka Kase, and Minami Takahashi will perform Yui Yamada in the OVA.
Takashima-sensei shared her impression of the Kase-san and Morning Glories with Manga Planet:
“I thought that Director Takuya Sato’s sensibility was beautiful and even more wonderful than the manga. Especially, the scenery and the atmosphere was magnificent, and Kyuta Sakai was also very cute. It is the best!”
For fans going to Anime Expo 2018, you can also see a premiere screening on July 8, 2018!
