Proudly touting their motto “event by fans for the fans,” Comic Fiesta is the first and biggest convention dedicated to animation, comics, and games (ACG) in Malaysia. Founded in 2002, by four friends who were very passionate about ACG, Comic Fiesta continues to showcase with passion for ACG, as the convention is run by volunteers who are fans.
Comic Fiesta is well-known for its hosting of a creative art market, which is similar to Japan’s Comiket, where aspiring artists get to sell their works. With more than a hundred booths, attendees can be sure of their fill of eye candy that will suit their fandom needs! Fans can also buy other merchandise like t-shirts and other goodies in their market.
As a celebration of all things, art, and creativity, Comic Fiesta has had a diverse set of guests that they’ve brought over to their convention. From voice actors to game directors and comic artists, Comic Fiesta’s guests are professionals that excel in the artistic and creative fields. Some of its distinguished guests have been Hajime Tabata, the Director of Final Fantasy XV, Danny Choo, the pop culture blogger/entrepreneur well-known for his SMART DOLL line, mangaka Kaoru Mori (Emma) and popular figure photographer EX KUROGANE.
Comic Fiesta also has Live Art demonstrations where aspiring artists get to view veterans show off their craft and the Portfolio Review Pavillion, where amateurs can get their work critiqued by professionals in their fields.
In 2006, Comic Fiesta debuted what would be one of the staples of cosplay conventions, the Cosplay Chess. Cosplayers face each other in battle on a giant chessboard as the two emcees control the actions of the cosplayers, it is a visual spectacle not to be missed.
One of Comic Fiesta’s biggest draws is cosplay and Comic Fiesta has both solo and group cosplay competitions where the cosplayers get to show their craft on stage. Besides the cosplay competitions, Comic Fiesta brings over popular cosplayers like Reika from Japan, Jin (behindinfinity) from the Philippines and Aza Miyuko (from South Korea).
For those who are more into the auditory side of the arts, Comic Fiesta hosts music artists of various genres. Last 2019, they brought over Hige Driver, a Japanese musician who has worked on several anime and games OST.
Comic Fiesta is an annual two-day event that puts artistry and creativity at the core of the event. For fans of Animation, Comics and Gaming, it is definitely an event worth going to.
